The Principal Trial Court

The New York State Unified Court System is the official home page of the state's court system. The system hears more than three million cases a year involving almost every type of legal matter. The Supreme Court is the principal trial court in New York State. It has a branch in each of the state's 62 counties.

The Appellate Division

The Appellate Division is part of the Supreme Court. It hears appeals from lower courts. The Appellate Division has four departments: the First Department (Manhattan and the Bronx), the Second Department (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Long Island), the Third Department (Albany, Troy, and Kingston), and the Fourth Department (Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse).
