Premier Jeremy Rockliff says the new vessel is a 'game-changer' for tourism

The Spirit of Tasmania IV has officially been handed over to TT-Line, marking a new era for tourism in Tasmania.

The $345 million vessel is the largest and most advanced ferry to ever operate in Australia, and is expected to boost tourism to the state by up to $40 million a year.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Spirit of Tasmania IV is a "game-changer" for tourism in Tasmania.

"This is the biggest and most advanced ferry to ever operate in Australia, and it is going to make a huge difference to our tourism industry," Mr Rockliff said.

"It is going to bring more tourists to Tasmania, and it is going to make it easier for Tasmanians to travel to and from the mainland.

"This is a great day for Tasmania."

Key features of the Spirit of Tasmania IV

  • Capacity for 1,800 passengers and 600 cars
  • Four passenger decks
  • A range of dining options, including a buffet, a la carte restaurant and a cafe
  • A bar and lounge area
  • A cinema
  • A children's play area
  • A dedicated area for pets

The Spirit of Tasmania IV will operate between Melbourne and Devonport, with crossings taking approximately 11 hours.

The vessel is expected to make its maiden voyage in early 2023.
